Pandigital PAN7000DW Product Description

The Pandigital PAN7000DW is an impressive member of the Pandigital family of digital picture frames. The 7-inch LCD screen with stunning 800 x 600 resolution gives excellent clarity and definition to your favorite photos, while the 4:3 viewing aspect ensures that your images will not be distorted from their original aspect ratio. Up to 6400 compressed images can be stored on 1 GB of internal memory. The black wood frame blends with any décor and your choice of charcoal gray or white mats add a professional finished presentation. Founded in 1998, Pandigital recognized the need to bridge new and traditional technologies like a digital camera and an elegant picture frame. Photography captures the special moments in our lives, moments that cannot be properly displayed or appreciated on the back of a digital camera. Pandigital has shipped more that 4 million digital picture frames and is one of the top 50 fastest growing companies in the US. In 2008, they were the #1 supplier of digital photo frames in North America. Their digital picture frames are of substantial quality, elegant and intuitive designs, they are versatile and affordable. They have helped millions of people move images out of their camera and back into their lives.

The perfect companion for your digital camera
We capture our most precious, and our most common, moments because they are not to be forgotten or taken for granted. The moment when we take a picture we are making a decision to be conscious, to be in the moment and to be grateful for it. But a photo in a camera or on a flash card is only an unfulfilled intention. Let your images free. Give them the power they deserve in your life to make you smile, to remember, or to pause for a moment and consider the past. Take advantage of customizable features like rotate and resize, programmable on and off, and your presentation will be both seamless and earth-friendly

The gift of a digital photo frame to a friend or loved one is every bit as meaningful as the gift of one to yourself. Who doesn’t need a pick-me-up right about now? It is said that the gift of experience is so much more meaningful than a mere material object. If that is the case, then the gift of re-experiencing those special moments must be priceless. The PAN7000DW includes 4 free digital greeting cards, which you can personalize with any message to your lucky giftee. The message will be displayed when the frame is turned on. Imagine the happy surprise of your recipient.

Share yourself with a slideshow
Framed pictures are such great conversation starters, and we get to know each other a little better when we share ourselves by displaying photos of friends, family, and favorite occasions. How much better we get to know each other through the use of slide shows, which allow us to showcase many special moments. We have seen our photo frames set in slide show mode at parties, family reunions, and gatherings to help establish a theme, at wedding anniversaries and bridal showers to highlight special moments in a couple’s past. A slideshow on this Pandigital frame is as easy as inserting your memory card. You can also add digital music, voices, or sound, to be played via the built-in speakers or audio out port. Transition effects between images can add to the entertainment. The built-in card reader accepts SD, xD, MS, MSPro, MMC, MicroSD (MicroSD to SD adaptor not included) and USB flash drives.

A little known feature is the built-in calendar and alarm clock. If space on your bedside table is tight, there’s no reason to not have a digital picture frame, just consolidate. The panel can be turned off at night so that the light won’t interfere with your sleep and a handy remote allows you to control major functions without crossing the room.

The Pandigital PAN7000DW can play digital audio and video, as well as images, straight from your memory card via the 5 in 1 card reader.JPEG, AVI and MP3 files are all accepted, no PC is needed. Alternatively, if you have files on your computer or camera, you can transfer them to the frame with the included USB cable. Don’t forget the images on your cell phone, those can be transferred too. Drop and drag technology makes selecting images from your computer and transferring them to the frame’s internal memory fast and easy, with no software needed. The PAN7000DW is Wi/Fi Bluetooth compatible when paired with the PANWF01 WiFi dongle and will allow wireless transfer with other Bluetooth devices. By Timothy Oey “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”

Good frame, good value, works as expected, The Pandigital PAN7000DW 7″ digital photo frame is the best digital photo frame I’ve found yet. I’ve purchased 4 other models in different sizes from Axion, Phillps, Smartparts, and Opteka. All of these others had various issues (16×9 when I wanted 4×3, didn’t always start picture show automatically, buggy software).

The PAN7000DW is reasonably priced (about $65 from Amazon as of 11/9/2009) as compared to the Sony models which are all much more expensive.

The PAN7000DW display is excellent — showing 800×600 pictures crisply and vividly. The software is very good with a reasonable user interface and useful options. I like displaying my photos using their original dimensions (the optimized view attempts to maximize the amount of display used but will chop off edges to accomplish this) – you can pick the view mode you want.

The frame accurately shows the EXIF photo date/time if you want to display it. It will also optionally show the current time. It has a nice calendar w/ picture view as well as the normal full frame photo view. And it seems to show ALL your photos eventually (I had a strange problem with an Opteka frame not showing all the photos, only a subset). The remote is small and is held on the back of the frame by a magnet. The remote works well (some remotes I’ve used have buttons that are hard to press or control). The menu structure (frame software) is logical and well arranged.

The clock functionality and auto turn on/off functionality is useful if you have power available to your frame at all times. However, I’ve hooked my frame up to a motion sensing power strip in my office and the time/date gets whacked when the sensor shuts off for the weekend (the time/date seem to survive for a few minutes or hours without power but not over a weekend). So if you use your frame with a motion sensing powerstrip, forget using the clock/calendar feature.

As I’ve discovered with many photo frames, if you want to display pictures in a particular order, they must exist in flash memory written down in that order – this is not a visible ordering – it does not depend on file name or file creation time. If you start with a totally empty flash card (or internal frame memory) then it will be the order in which the files are copied to the memory device. Macintosh and Windows file copy routines are the fastest way to copy files but the order in which copying takes place is not under your control if you move a large number of files all at the same time – the operating system parallelizes the copying for speed but this places the pictures in different physical memory order. It is too bad that most photo frames do not allow you to display in creation date order or EXIF date order or even file name order.

The best way to lay down the photos in sequence is to start with an empty flash device. Then copy the files either one by one by hand or using an automated method that copies files only one at a time. A cmd file on Windows that can do this is like:
——-
dir /b /od>c:\junk.txt
for /f “delims=*” %%i in (c:\junk.txt) do copy “%%i” f:\
——-
[...] (you need to change this script to fit your exact situation)

Alternatively you can use Photoshop Elements or some other photo management tool to export photos in sequence directly to a memory card or your picture frame.

Hopefully future photo frames will become a bit more intelligent and allow you to pick your display order.

Overall I’ve found the PAN7000DW to be a good value and to work as you would expect.

By Synthetic Twilight

Awesomer than I dared dream, I thought the reviews sounded pretty good, so I went ahead and got this thing. Uh… WAY BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE!

First, the negatives:

1) It’s very fragile. I don’t imagine households with prowling cats or tons of children under the age of 5 could long preserve this thing if it occupied the same habitats. One fall from desk height, and it’ll probably be toast.

2) It’s kind of a pain to rotate pictures you put on it. It doesn’t seem to important computer setting for an image if you’ve already rotated it on your computer, which means you have to painstakingly find the image and rotate it individually. Also, it only rotates in a single direction, so you often have to press the button three times to get it to where you want it.

3) Image quality deteriorates under light. This is pretty much true for anything that projects light itself, like your TV, so it’s not something that I can really complain about.

Other than that though, this thing is splendid!

The remote works well. It has a calender and date function as well as an alarm clock. It has nifty little “swipes” when it’s changing between pictures if you set it on slideshow. The image quality is very good. It has an extra black picture boarder you can use instead of the default white one that comes with the frame.

Probably one of its best features though is its ability to receive pictures from three different methods. You can plug it straight into your computer using a USB connector. You can just stick a USB drive into it, OR you can use a SIM card from a digital camera. TUFF!

Also, it’s a LOT cheaper than comparable devices. I am more than fully satisfied with this nice little thing.

The Invicta 8926c is a “Homage” to the Rolex Submariner. The design is similar but there are differences between the two. IF you are buying this watch, and think your going to get Rolex quality, you will be disappointed. That said, this watch is a good quality for the price paid. The bracelet has solid links, with hollow end links. The case is solid 316L stainless steel. The movement in this watch is the Miyota Automatic, which is made by Citizen Watch Group. Accuracy for this watch has been good, and the power reserve seems to be around 35-40 hours. The rotating bezel is stiff to turn at first, but once you have worked it in it rotates easy. Crystal is mineral, and while not scratch resistant, I have yet to scratch this crystal. The cyclops over the date window looks to be about 1.5x magnification, which is little low but not too bad. The crystal doesn’t have any anti-reflective coating applied. ***Newer 8926c are now equipped with Invicta’s “Flamed Fusion” crystal which is a sapphire coated mineral, which is scratch resistant and shatter resistant. Date Magnification got a bump up too. Nice Upgrade.***

Overall I am very pleased with this watch. This would be a nice watch to introduce someone to the world of automatics.

By Duarte Manuel Simoes

Excellent value for the money, I already owned a very similar Orient watch and the original, i.e. a Rolex Submariner. So, I decided to buy this “Invicta Submariner”, if I may call it such.
This watch is superb. Its finish is immaculate and absolutely perfect, quite probably better finished than the Rolex, believe it or not. The magnifying lense in the date is by no means as effective as in the Rolex or Orient; The Invicta is larger and heavier and its bracelet lacks the quick deployment extension that we find in the Rolex. (to wear over the diving suit)
The watch is incredibly well made; the only think I really disliked was its glass case back. Others may like it, but I prefer steel. Another thing I really loath is the “INVICTA” engraving that these watches display in the left flank of the case. I’ve never seen this in any other watch. If you wear this watch with long sleeve you will probably have a growing tendency to disregard it, however.
Altough Invicta is a (American owned?) Swiss brand, you will find a Japanese Automatic Miyota movement inside these watches. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, quite the opposite. Miyotas are what we normally find in Citizens, and you can rest assured that such movement will provide you a lifetime of good service and spares are plentiful. In what concerns its accuracy, I’m sure that it won’t beat my Rolex, whose daily deviation is sometimes zero, or at the most one or two seconds; I haven’t used mine yet but I guess that it must be around the usual minus 5 plus 10 seconds per day. If you want to improve it, wear your new watch for at least some 20 days for a break in period and then take it to a good watchmaker to be fine tuned. If it was making, say, 12 seconds per day it will henceforth make about five, sometimes less. In the end of a week that makes quite a difference. Anyone wearing a mechanical watch must know that. Your watch accuracy can be improved. A great many people is unaware of this.
This is a excellent watch, as well finished as the Orient and probably better so than the Rolex, and very affordable. It is not as valuable as a Rolex, wich is a good thing because I wouldn’t use mine in the beach, nor with short sleeve. I held both in my hands and can assure you that no watch is more beautiful than the other, and actually, to me the Invicta has the more adequate (larger) size.
One last thing: my first watch was promptly returned, because it had a scratch. I want everybody to know that Amazon mabe a superb job, sending me a perfect replacement in four days(!)USA to Portugal, even before they had received back the scratched first watch. Such unbeatable customer service must be highly commended, and I only wished that all other retailers in the internet were as good…

THE YACHT-MASTER II
The Skipper’s Watch

The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master II is the ultimate reference chosen by professionals who sail the world. And those whose passion for innovation knows no limits.

AN OBSESSION WITH PERFECTION

The Ring Command Bezel

Rolex achieved perfection when it turned its attention to redefining the purpose and functionality of the bezel. Typically, a bezel operates independently from the internal mechanism, however, the Ring Command bezel in the Yecht-Master II regatta chronograph operates in conjunction with it. A mechanical component that is linked to the movement, the bezel literally acts as the key to the programmable countdown, allowing it to be set and synchronised to the sequence of race start times. Complex in design, but simple in use, it is functionally beautiful.

Rolex Gold

Rolex’s commitment to excellence begins at the source. By operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivalled ability to create new and unique alloys, holding each to the very highest of standards. Rolex’s goal: Absolute purity. Cases, bracelets and components are painstakingly crafted for exceptional durability, colour and beauty.

The Triplock Winding Crown

To protect the movement from water and dust, Rolex invented and patented the Triplock winding crown. This ingenious triple-seal system consists of 10 separate elements crafted from 18ct gold for the crown and special polymers for the gaskets. Once assembled, it screws down on to the Oyster case as tightly and securely as a submarine hatch.

4160 Movement

Unequalled, like every Rolex before it, the Yacht-Master II is a product of legendary craftsmanship. At its core lies the 4160 movement, the result of 35,000 development hours and 360 individual components. Technically brilliant, on or off the water, its signature complication is a programmable countdown with mechanical memory. With a column wheel that extends through the main plate, both sides of the movement are connected. This ingenious design enables the perfect synchronization between the different elements of the countdown. The result? Racers can now set their watch to the exact regatta starting sequences.

Interactive User Guide

The Yacht-Master II is the world’s first regatta chronograph to offer a programmable countdown featuring a mechanical memory. Whether you are at the helm or observing from the dock of the yacht club, the Rolex Yacht-Master II is an indispensable tool that draws you into the race and enables you to propel yourself, with confidence and elegance, full force towards the finish line.

SPIRIT OF THE YACHT-MASTER II

The Rolex Farr 40 World Championship

For 96 hours, a stretch of water will become a sea of sameness. The Rolex Farr 40 World Championship requires that boats, sails, and even total crew weight be equal. What will separate the winning boat from all others will be the crew’s ability to work together as a precisely coordinated team, ready to exploit any and all opportunities the skipper, wind and sea might provide. The difference of a mere split second – something the ocean can give and take away quickly – may be all that’s needed to win.

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

Some of the most treacherous waters in the Southern Hemisphere lie between Sydney and Hobart, a distance of 628 nautical miles and nearly a week at sea. Those who make the voyage are on a course to define courage. From the individuals to the teams themselves, the challenge must be faced with grit and stoicism. Those who have made the journey have been known to sav it moved their soul. Facino 60-knot winds and towering seas how could it not?

Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup

There is an elegance that comes with sailing, which is nearly impossible to see in difficult, harsh conditions. But along the Sardinian coastline, the scene is quite different. Here, the world’s most graceful and powerful yachts cut through the Mediterranean with agility, refinement and ease. Perfect sailing conditions and crew coordination are crucial to the wav these imposing boats glide along. An entire team reacting as one is maritime choreography at its finest. Organised by the Yacht club Costa Smeralda, the world famous Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup is very much a competition. To the spectator’s eye, the setting and magnificence of the yachts can make it look otherwise.

Literally Stunning in Bright Sunlight – Golf Course or Ocean, The Platinum Yacht-Master is one of those watches that catches eyes but not in an obtrusive way. I find it hard to wear this watch with a short sleeve shirt because it catches too many eyes so most of the time I wear this watch with a suit. It makes an impression…walk in anywhere with this watch and eyes will turn to it by those who know it for what it is and even people who don’t know Rolex very well will still turn their heads at the sight of this watch – its that beautiful. Generally people stare at it wondering what it is and then get close enough to read it, its a great conversation starter. Its that gorgeous. In broad sunlight on the golf course the dial and bezel play with each other very well and the platinum finish litteraly sparkles in a gorgeous fashion. Its indescribable. I love to play golf with this watch for that reason alone. To me, its the perfect golf watch…the same can be said for wearing this watch on a sailboat on a beautiful sunny day…the sparkle is indescribable, you have to see it to believe it. No other watch or material or finish shines like this watch in bright sunlight.

I must admit, I prefer to wear the Sea-Dweller on a regular basis for its understated elegance and broader vesatility but when the expensive suits or tuxes come out, I generally reach for this watch unless I need a very understated look when I might reach for a leatherband dress watch.

Of note, as far as I know, Rolex does not allow this watch to be officially sold over the internet so don’t know how Amazon is doing it but its here so I thought I’d review it.

How much of this watch is platinum. The dial and bezel are solid platinum — and there’s probably about $2,000 to $3,000 worth of platinum and like I mentioned its just plain stunning in sunlight. The remainder of the body of this watch is made of Rolex’s special high nickle steel. The middle links of the bracelet are polished to a high gloss and this watch feature solid end links which is also a nice touch. This is one of my favorite watches to wear. The sapphire crystal, expensive 3135 movement which goes for several thousand itself, the special metals and careful machining price this watch out as the most expensive of the yacht-master line more than even the gold and steel submariner. Only the Daytona is more expensive before you get into the really high end stuff from Rolex but I think this watch retails for more than the lowest end steel daytonna (or it did). This watch is usually in short supply, if you want to get one, I don’t recommend you passing one up. I find it best to buy from an authorized retailer. You won’t find this watch on sale if you can even find the watch. If you do find one of these, consider yourself lucky and treat the sales person with respect, they probably have two buyers in line for it and be armed with $10k as that’s what it’ll take for you to get this guy on your wrist after taxes.

Some people think that Rolex is overpriced. I do not think so, the company’s history, the fact they make everything in house using the best materials, the fact they give their profits to charity, and the company’s unwavering commitment to watchmaking beyond marketing hype makes these watches timeless. In my opinion in 100 years from now, many trendy watch companies of today might not be around beyond existing in name only — I think that in 100 years Rolex will still be making their watches in house from the finest of materials – that’s the idea of Rolex. As a note, as a watch afficionado, I’ve owned many timepieces and some high end pieces have literally fallen apart on me in the golf course. Never has a Rolex failed me, not through rain or snow or treks through Africa, Asia, Africa, and all over the Americas — few watches can hold such a statement. Quality is #1 for this company.

Yes, this is a luxury piece, insure it, take care of it and it will be with you for a lifetime.

This review is from: ROLEX YACHT MASTER 16622 Best Price (Watch)

By Enigma

Great watch, but Rolex does not allow to be sold new on the Internet. Period., First, before my review, note that it’s highly questionable whether you are buying a legitimate Rolex here from an authorized dealer (I’m not talking Amazon themselves who I fully trust, this is being sold by a third-party seller). Rolex does not allow Internet sales and will quickly remove authorized dealer status from any dealer they find selling on the Internet AND/OR discounting, which means no warranty or service from Rolex – a must have for this much money. Further, you should question any sale of this particular watch that is below retail new or used, which is $9,450 (not correctly listed here, but perhaps because Rolex raises their prices annually). A reputable private-market seller would never need to sell this particular model for less than retail price.

If you are considering any watch in the price range of a Rolex from their “low end” (which their is no such thing – just less expensive) to $100K, there is no comparison. The quality is incredible. The watch is built and assembled by hand at Rolex. The cases and links are machined of course, but out of high quality, solid metals, but the mechanism / movements are hand assembled and calibrated. It takes over a year to create one.

Yes, you can certainly buy other high quality watches, which I have over the years; but, no one will recognize it as such. It’s individual taste obviously, but if you want to spend a large amount on a watch AND have it recognized by others as a quality piece, then Rolex should be a strong consideration. It is second to none. I’ve never met a watch fanatic or ‘geek’ that would disagree with Rolex’s quality, service and stature – style is the only point of disagreement I’ve run into and read.

If you are looking in the $10K price range, look no further. The 16622 (aka “The Platinum Yacht-Master” or “The Rolesium Yacht-Master”) is an excellent piece. Highly accurate with features not found on any other Rolex such as the ‘maxi-dial’ (larger hour markers and hands than typical). This is one of the Rolexes you can wind. Further, it is NEVER discounted and rather difficult to find due to the limited quantities of this particular model. Since its release in 1997, it’s been sought by collectors and Rolex lovers. It’s not uncommon to find true, verified versions of these on the private after market selling for more than new. Verified Rolexes always hold their value based on condition and the 16622 is the only Rolex besides the Stainless Daytona that has greater value.

So, you might be asking “what exactly on this watch IS platinum and what is stainless (Rolex’s own 420 of course)?” The dial and the bezel are both platinum. Everything else is Rolex’s high quality 420 stainless steel. The case machined from a solid block of it then highly polished. The links, the same, but the center links highly polished and outer links brushed giving a nice ‘two-tone’ look. The attention to detail is there with an embossed, raised Rolex crown on the trip lock winding crown, a red second hand, “Yacht-Master” printed on the face in red, a crown embossed on the clasp lock and Rolex

Overall, the 16622 is a great looking, unassuming Rolex. It’s not too “in your face”, but does grab one’s eye. One who knows Rolex will quickly recognize the classic design. One who doesn’t will take a second glance and I’ve caught people next to me tilting their heads reading the face – unless hard of seeing, people will quickly recognize the Crown and “Rolex” on the Platinum dial.

THE OYSTER PERPETUAL

Legendary Watches

The front-runner in a collection of legendary watches, the Oyster is the most recognized and most easily recognizable of watches.  Over time it has become an archetype.  The Oyster benefits from all the technology and know-how of Rolex.  Aesthetically, these models have evolved subtly over the years, but their unmistakable identity has always been respected.

THE ORIGINS

Hans Wilsdorf

The history of Rolex is inextricably linked to the visionary spirit of Hans Wilsdorf, its founder.  The young man entered the world of Swiss watchmaking in the early 20th century at a time when the pocket watch was the order of the day.  He began to dream of a watch worn on the wrist.  Wristwatches were not very precise but Hans Wilsdorf forsaw that they could become not only elegant, but also reliable.

To convince the public of the reliability of his resolutely innovative timepieces, he equipped them with small, very precise movements manufactured by a Swiss watchmaking company in Bienne.

The Quest for Chronometric Precision

Rolex first concentrated on the quality of the movements.  The relentless quest for chronometric precision rapidly led to success.  In 1910, a Rolex watch became the first wristwatch in the world to receive a Swiss certificate of precision, granted by the Official Watch Rating Centre in Bienne.

Four years later, in 1914, Kew Observatory in Great Britain awarded a Rolex wristwatch a class “A” precision certificate, a distinction which until that point in time had been reserved exclusively for marine chronometers.  From that date forward, the Rolex wristwatch was synonymous with precision.

The Birth of The Waterproof Watch

In 1926, a major step was taken with the invention of the world’s first waterproof and dustproof wristwatch.  This watch named the “Oyster” – featured a hermetically sealed case which provided optimal protection for the movement.

Waterproof, Dustproof, Coldproof

A year after its creation, in 1927, the Oyster crossed the English Channel, worn by a young English swimmer, Mercedes Gleitze.  At the end of her swim, which lasted over 10 hours, the watch remained in perfect working order.  To celebrate this landmark event, Hans Wilsdorf published an advertisement on the front page of the Daily Mail proclaiming the success of the waterproof watch.  The triumph led to the concept of the Testimonee, adventurous men and women, achievers whose exploits and daring would, in time, become so closely associated with the superiority of the Rolex brand.

A Living Laboratory

Rolex recognised the formidable opportunity to test, fine-tune and showcase the technical performance of the Oyster in different arenas.  The worlds of sport, aviation, motor racing and expeditions constituted living laboratories for the watches’ countless technical attributes.

In the realm of motor racing, a beautiful partnership was developed in the 1930s between Rolex and Sir Malcolm Campbell: on 4 September 1935, at the wheel of his Bluebird, this champion of champions set a land speed record of over 300 miles per hour (approximately 484 km/h) at Utah’s Bonneville Speedway.

The Self-Winding Movement

The Oyster soon boasted yet another outstanding feature.  In 1931, Rolex invented and patented the world’s first self-winding mechanism with a Perpetual rotor.  This ingenious system is at the origin of every modern automatic watch.

AN OBSESSION WITH PERFECTION

The Superlative Chronometer

The four simple words SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED engraved on the timepiece’s dial mean that the movement of this watch has endured 15 days and nights of testing by the COSC (Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres), an independent not-for-profit association.  To receive COSC certification – a watch must demonstrate extreme precision in a variety of positions and temperatures – the standard level of quality for every Rolex Chronometer.

The Oyster Case

Very few people in the world are allowed inside a Rolex Oyster.  Only authorized Rolex retailers have the necessary know-how, skills and equipment to gain access.  Hermetically  sealed to the case with a massive torque of five Newton metres, the back of any Oyster, as this caseback demonstrates, creates an environment that protects the movement from shocks, pressure, dust, water and any other intrusive element.

The Oyster Perpetual Movement

The self-winding mechanism consists of a half-moon-shaped oscillating weight, which pivots freely on its central axle, in one direction, then the other with the natural movements of the wrist.  It transmits uninterrupted natural energy to the watch.  The oscillations of the weight create energy which is stored in the mainspring.  Today, a Rolex watch enjoys an autonomy of approximately 50 hours.  The perpetual rotor system of the Oyster movements is recognizable by two red reversing wheels that allow the rewinding of the movement regardless of the rotation direction of the oscillating weight.

904L Steel

Rolex uses 904L steel for its steel watch cases.  904L is usually reserved for the chemical industry, where maximum resistance against corrosion proves essential.  In this manner, 904L perfectly complements the other precious metals used by Rolex.  A super alloy, 904L is unimaginably resistant and able to be polished to a high degree.

Diamonds. And More.

A true jewel, the gem-set Oyster is very wearable luxury, well suited to any situation.  Indeed, the Oyster is meticulously designed with absolute attention to detail in the pursuit of perfection.

THE DATEJUST

The Classic Watch

The Oyster Perpetual Datejust is the ultimate reference chosen by those who believe in timeless elegance.

THE ORIGINS

1945

The First Datejust

In 1945 at the dawn of a new era of prosperity, Rolex launched the first Datejust.  The inaugural model with its waterproofness, streamlined elegance and date aperture on the face of the watch, was a timepiece ahead of its time.

The Mystery Man

In 1947, commemorating the brand’s 100,000th officially certified chronometer, Hans Wilsdorf presented that selfsame Datejust to an illustrious gentleman he described as one of the greatest figures of our time.  To this day, his identity has never been revealed.  ROLEX 1950s ADVERTISING

AN OBSESSION WITH PERFECTION

First Date

In the earliest models of the Datejust, the date would begin to change some hours before its midnight rendezvous.  In 1953, the date-change mechanism became instantaneous, and the date aperture was enhanced with a Cyclops lens enabling magnification of the date by two and half times for easy reading.

Superlative Chronometer

The four simple words SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED engraved on the timepiece’s dial mean that the movement of this watch was has endured 15 days and nights of testing by the COSC (Controle Officiel Suisse des Chronometres), an independent not-for-profit association.  To receive COSC certification – a watch must demonstrate

The Fluted Bezel

In the beginning, the Oyster bezel fluting had a functional purpose: it served to screw the bezel onto the case helping to ensure the waterproofness of the watch.  The fluting was, furthermore, identical to the fluting on the caseback, which was also screwed onto the case for the same reason, using specific Rolex tools.  The bezel evolved over time and later would be friction fitted onto the crystal and the case.  The fluting became a purely aesthetic element, a genuine Rolex signature feature.  A mark of distinction that is only available on yellow, Everose or white gold models.

Rolesor

As far back as the 1920s, Rolex watches were available with a two-tone Bicolore gold case: mostly yellow or red gold paired with white gold or platinum.  In 1993 the association of gold and steel was registered by Rolex under the name Rolesor.  Three years after the launch of the Oyster perpetual Datejust in 1945, the model was presented for the first time in Rolesor.  It met with immediate success, achieving the status of a legendary watch distinguishable at a glance.  Today, the Datejust in Rolesor is available in various combinations: steel with white, yellow or Everose gold.

Jubilee, Oyster, Pearlmaster…

Almost as much work goes into creating the Rolex bracelet as the Rolex movement.  Its over 100 moving parts are conceived and crafted simultaneously to ensure perfect homogeneity and fluidity.  Edges are sculpted and smoothed for comfort.  The clasp is designed for easier opening and closing.  The length can also be individually adjusted, providing perfect fit.  But only after it is tested under some of the most extreme conditions does it earn the right to be called a Rolex bracelet.

THE SUBMARINER

The Diver’s Watch

The Oyster Perpetual Submariner is the ultimate reference chosen by professionals with a taste for style and the deep.

THE ORIGINS

1953 The First Submariner

Launched in 1953, the Submariner was the first watch guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet).  Already by 1955, the Submariner became waterproof down to 200 metres (660 feet).  Today’s Submariner can withstand the pressure at a depth of 300 metres (1,000 feet) and is designed to resist extreme conditions

A Perfect Partner On Land Or In The Sea

We invented the Submariner to work perfectly 660 feet under the sea.  It seems to work pretty well at any level. ROLEX 1965 ADVERTISING

AN OBSESSION WITH PERFECTION

The Triplock Winding Crown

To protect the movement from water and dust, Rolex invented and patented the Triplock winding crown.  Professional models equipped with this ingenious triple-seal system, like the Submariner, are waterproof to 300 metres (1,000 feet).  The triplock consists of 10 separate elements crafted from the most reliable materials.  Once assembled, it screws down on to the Oyster case as tightly and securely as a submarine hatch.  Finally to earn the Rolex name the watch is tested at pressures far beyond the guaranteed depth, where few submarines have ever ventured.

Unidirectional Rotatable Bezel

The Submariner was the first diving watch equipped with a rotatable bezel.  The graduations provide the diver with an accurate indication of diving time.  For safety reasons, it rotates only anti-clockwise, so there is no chance of over-estimating the surfacing time or the remaining amount of breathing mix in the tanks.  The luminescent capsule ensures legibility, no matter how light-deprived the environment.

The Ceramic Bezel

The bezel of a watch can deteriorate when exposed to sunlight, chlorinated water or scratches.  This motivated Rolex to create a one-of-a-kind bezel with a Cerachrom disc.  Fashioned from extremely hard ceramic material, it has excellent corrosion-resistant properties, its colour remains unaffected by ultraviolet rays and it is virtually scratch-proof.  To inscribe numerals on this hardest of materials, Rolex further developed and patented a unique process.  The numerals and graduations are carved before the ceramic hardens; the Cerachrom disc is then covered with either yellow gold or platinum, atom by atom, and polished until only the precious metal in the numerals and graduations remains, permanently.
