Behavior Modification Principles and Procedures

Editorial Reviews

“I just wanted to write and let you know how highly impressed I have been with your book “Behavior Modification Principles and Procedures”. I read it for a behavior modification class I took at The University of North Carolina at Wilimington two years ago. At the time myself and other classmates were impressed with how easy it was to understand and how interesting it was to read. Thanks to your book and my instructor Dr. Christine Hughes I gained such a thorough understanding of behavior modification principals and have been able to apply many of them in my workplace repeatedly. It is also one of the few textbooks that I read for pleasure.

Thank you for writing a book that brings students to gain a real passion for a subject area.” –This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Back to the Lake A Reader for Writers (New Rhetoric Reader)

Editorial Reviews

A fresh take on the modes, showing that they are used in texts of all kinds, not just in essays written for first-year composition—and that they are central to all the writing, speaking, and thinking that we do.

Taking its title from “Once More to the Lake,” the classic essay by E. B. White found in all rhetorically arranged readers, Back to the Lake offers much that is new, from 40 readings never before anthologized in a composition reader to templates to help students get started.

A Patriot’s History of the United States: From Columbus’s Great Discovery to the War on Terror

A Patriot's History of the United States From Columbus's Great Discovery to the War on Terror

For the past three decades, many history professors have allowed their biases to distort the way America’s past is taught. These intellectuals have searched for instances of racism, sexism, and bigotry in our history while downplaying the greatness of America’s patriots and the achievements of “dead white men.”

As a result, more emphasis is placed on Harriet Tubman than on George Washington; more about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II than about D-Day or Iwo Jima; more on the dangers we faced from Joseph McCarthy than those we faced from Josef Stalin.

A Patriot’s History of the United States corrects those doctrinaire biases. In this groundbreaking book, America’s discovery, founding, and development are reexamined with an appreciation for the elements of public virtue, personal liberty, and private property that make this nation uniquely successful. This book offers a long-overdue acknowledgment of America’s true and proud history.

Editorial Reviews

Review

“This book has taught me more about our history than any I’ve read in years. A Patriot’s History of the United States should be required reading for all Americans.”
–Glenn Beck

A welcome, refreshing, and solid contribution to relearning what we have forgotten and remembering why this nation is good, and worth defending. –Matthew Spalding, National Review

In A Patriot’s History of the United States, Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen remind us what a few good individuals can do in just a few short centuries . . . . A fluid account of America from the discovery of the Continent up to the present day.
–Brandon Miniter, The Wall Street Journal

No recent American history challenges the conventional wisdom of academics as aggressively as Larry Schweikart and Michael Allen’s A Patriot’s History of the United States.
–Daniel J. Flynn, Front Page Magazine

There are a thousand pleasant surprises and heartening reminders that underneath it all America remains a country of ideas, ideals, and optimism—and no amount of revisionism can take that legacy away.
–John Coleman, Humane Studies Review

Get this and Mulitivariable, by Michael Williams

The solutions manual was a great purchase. This book breaks down the problem and shows step-by-step on how to complete the problem.

If you’re only planning on taking (Calculus 1 up to Calculus 3) then this book is all you need. But if you’re going to take Calculus 4 (Multi-variable Calculus) then you should get the second book.

Very Helpful!, by D. Castillo

I’m taking an online Calculus 1 course and I wouldn’t have been able to get through the many homework assignments without this solutions manual! It provides step-by-step solutions that are easily understood by even the most mathematically challenged. I would definitely suggest purchasing this manual to accompany the actual textbook.

The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium Trilogy, No 2) [Mass Market Paperback]

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Amazon Best of the Month, July 2009: The girl with the dragon tattoo is back. Stieg Larsson’s seething heroine, Lisbeth Salander, once again finds herself paired with journalist Mikael Blomkvist on the trail of a sinister criminal enterprise. Only this time, Lisbeth must return to the darkness of her own past (more specifically, an event coldly known as “All the Evil”) if she is to stay one step ahead–and alive. The Girl Who Played with Fire is a break-out-in-a-cold-sweat thriller that crackles with stunning twists and dismisses any talk of a sophomore slump. Fans of Larsson’s prior work will find even more to love here, and readers who do not find their hearts racing within the first five pages may want to confirm they still have a pulse. Expect healthy doses of murder, betrayal, and deceit, as well as enough espresso drinks to fuel downtown Seattle for months. –Dave Callanan –This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From Publishers Weekly

Fans of intelligent page-turners will be more than satisfied by Larsson’s second thriller, even though it falls short of the high standard set by its predecessor, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which introduced crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist and punk hacker savant Lisbeth Salander. A few weeks before Dag Svensson, a freelance journalist, plans to publish a story that exposes important people involved in Sweden’s sex trafficking business based on research conducted by his girlfriend, Mia Johansson, a criminologist and gender studies scholar, the couple are shot to death in their Stockholm apartment. Salander, who has a history of violent tendencies, becomes the prime suspect after the police find her fingerprints on the murder weapon. While Blomkvist strives to clear Salander of the crime, some far-fetched twists help ensure her survival. Powerful prose and intriguing lead characters will carry most readers along. (Aug.)

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest [Deckle Edge] [Hardcover]

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest [Deckle Edge] [Hardcover]

Editorial Reviews

Amazon Best Books of the Month, May 2010 As the finale to Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest is not content to merely match the adrenaline-charged pace that made international bestsellers out of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played with Fire. Instead, it roars with an explosive storyline that blows the doors off the series and announces that the very best has been saved for last. A familiar evil lies in wait for Lisbeth Salander, but this time, she must do more than confront the miscreants of her past; she must destroy them. Much to her chagrin, survival requires her to place a great deal of faith in journalist Mikael Blomkvist and trust his judgment when the stakes are highest. To reveal more of the plot would be criminal, as Larsson’s mastery of the unexpected is why millions have fallen hard for his work. But rest assured that the odds are again stacked, the challenges personal, and the action fraught with neck-snapping revelations in this snarling conclusion to a thrilling triad. This closing chapter to The Girl’s pursuit of justice is guaranteed to leave readers both satisfied and saddened once the final page has been turned. –Dave Callanan

From Publishers Weekly

The exhilarating conclusion to bestseller Larsson’s Millennium trilogy (after The Girl Who Played with Fire) finds Lisbeth Salander, the brilliant computer hacker who was shot in the head in the final pages of Fire, alive, though still the prime suspect in three murders in Stockholm. While she convalesces under armed guard, journalist Mikael Blomkvist works to unravel the decades-old coverup surrounding the man who shot Salander: her father, Alexander Zalachenko, a Soviet intelligence defector and longtime secret asset to Säpo, Sweden’s security police. Estranged throughout Fire, Blomkvist and Salander communicate primarily online, but their lack of physical interaction in no way diminishes the intensity of their unconventional relationship. Though Larsson (1954–2004) tends toward narrative excess, his was an undeniably powerful voice in crime fiction that will be sorely missed. 500,000 first printing. (May)
